Body Integration

Reverb10 challenge for the day (from Patrick Reynolds): Body Integration. This year, when did you feel the most integrated with your body? Did you have a moment where there wasn’t mind and body, but simply a cohesive YOU, alive and present?

The short answer is that I had a few moments of body integration throughout the year. But the majority of time that I was exercising, I did not achieve the body integration referred to.

Why? Mainly because I didn’t have a long, sustained period of regular exercise over a several months. It tended to be start and stop, due to weather, minor aches/injury, trying to synchronize with another’s schedule, etc. I prefer to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. I like how it feels to exercise hard, to achieve that integration of body and mind. Being ‘in the zone’.

The good news is that even when I wasn’t running or biking or using my recumbent exercise bike, I always continued to walk. Lots. So I did exercise throughout the year, even if it wasn’t always as long or hard as I would have liked. Or needed.

The result? Instead of waiting for the new year, I’m easing back into an exercise routine now. I’ll build on that, and look forward to lots of body integration in 2011!
