Dumber than Dirt?

Early yesterday morning I received a phone call that Daughter’s Dutch club voetbal  game had been cancelled.

Not surprising, since at the time it was -6 degrees Celsius in the small town 30 minutes north of here where she plays. That’s 21 degrees Fahrenheit people.

And given the usual wind rolling in off the North Sea across the flat, nearly treeless approach to the playing fields, the wind chill had driven the temperature down to the low teens.

Voetbal players around the globe tend to be hardy stock, and here is no exception. They play through fog, light rain, hail, snow flurries, light snow.

So the rationale for the cancellation? NOT that it was too cold for the players.

‘Only’ because the fields were frozen, too hard.

Strange when the ground is smarter than the humans…
