Hey Alice! Good Works Are Spreading Thanks to You!

Okay, I’m trying not to cry while I type this, but it’s hard.

My bottom lip is quivering, and tears are welling in my eyes. I can’t even talk to myself as I often do when I write because there’s a catch in my voice that will put me over the edge into a full-blown bawl-fest.

I’ll be sobbing like a baby in no time flat.

Not because anything is wrong, but because something is right.

Awhile back I wrote this piece on Alice Pyne and her bucket list. Alice is a brave teenager who lives in Northern England, and desperately needs a bone marrow transplant to fight what is ultimately a losing battle to cancer.

In my post, I mentioned Alice’s fervent desire that everyone register to become a bone marrow donor, and provided links to the worldwide National Marrow Donor Registry network and also the Make A Wish Foundation. I even did an update about how Alice’s Bucket List has gone viral.

When I opened my mail yesterday, I wasn’t expecting this: for my birthday, my brother’s family (who recently visited us here in Nederland) have made donations in my name to the Make A Wish Foundations in both The Netherlands AND in North Carolina (where we lived prior to moving abroad).

Make-A-Wish Foundation

I am floored. Simply speechless.

And filled with gratitude and love.

May I just say what an awesome brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew I have? Seriously.

Words cannot express how much I appreciate this wonderful gift. And family. And good health. But still, let me say thank you.

Thank you so much. You all rock! I’m just saying.

Meanwhile, on the Alice front, here’s the latest on ticking off items on her list, courtesy of the Irish Examiner.
