I am so sorry about the defeat last night. In our house, we are supporting 4 different teams: my husband supports Greece of course (he is Greek), my older son Germany (he wants to feel he’s got a good chance of winning), my younger son France (‘because it’s our home now, Mummy’) and I support Holland, because they play well. Normally. Anyway, suffice it say, things were tense in our house yesterday…

Football fever is mega here in NL isn’t it. I have one very unhappy Dutchie in the house today. I just hope they pull off in the next round otherwise a. I am not sure whether I can survive so much despair and b. I will miss all the orange euphoria, makes up for the bad weather.

We’re all, ummm, a bit disheartened. The Dutch care deeply about their voetbal so there is a lot of consternation and discussion. What I like is that it doesn’t degenerate into trash talking the players, but rather the overall situation. Onward to Plan C for Sunday…

Oh goodness. Yes, Euro IS huge. I am here in Jamaica watching the Dutch getting beaten by the Germans, though! They need to score some goals desperately, with half an hour to go! Having some drops of Dutch blood in me – and being a passionate football fan – I always support the Orange! If they don’t win this game they will be OUT!

England managed a one all draw with arch rivals France – the old, old enemy! Only kidding. I must be the only one who really isn’t that bothered by the whole soccer circus. Now, come the Olympics, well that’s an entirely different matter.

The children at my school (ages between 12 and 15) are out of control! Whatever happens, win or loose, they will be in a worse state then today, I fear…

I hand in my ‘kaartjes’ at school, the children of my collegues are very happy with them (or maybe the teachers keep them for themselves?)
